REGISTRATION DEADLINE: September 24
These Scholarship Competitions are unique 7-week programs for local high schoolers that provide an empowering experience through mentorship and coaching that focuses on important life skills and personal growth. They are NOT "beauty pageants"; they are scholarship programs with a focus on community service, produced by Whidbey Royalty, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
No experience is necessary! These competitions are designed for everyone. Contestants must be in grade 9, 10, 11, or 12, and live in or attend a school in the Oak Harbor School District. Each competition is limited to the first 20 contestants who submit completed applications.
Applications are accepted December-January for the Miss competition, August-September for the Mister competition. Registration forms and additional information can be found on the PAGEANTS tab at WhidbeyRoyalty.org. Download the form, complete it, save it on your computer, then attach it to an email to WhidbeyRoyalty@gmail.com.
The scoring system takes into account the whole person and incorporates 14 scoring categories with variable weighting, making this a competition for everyone which anyone can win! Scoring in all of the primary categories takes place prior to pageant night, with the final pieces (Presentation/Talent, Formal Wear, Stage Presence, and Impromptu Question) being scored live during the pageant.
Competition scoring includes 14 categories with variable weighting:
* Attendance (12%) * Formal Wear (7%) * Academics (5%)
* Board of Directors Input (11%) * Stage Presence (5%) * Service (5%)
* Video Journals (10%) * Presentation or Talent (5%) * Physical Fitness (5%)
* Marketing (10%) * Extra-curricular (5%)
* Personal Interview (8%) * Work (5%)
* Platform/Cause Presentation (7%)
Each contestant receives a t-shirt and swag bag loaded with goodies. But more importantly, contestants receive mentorship and coaching that will help them succeed not only in the competition but also in life: interview, public speaking, marketing, and stage presence.
Each competition delivers thousands of dollars in scholarships every season as well as many other awards and lots of recognition.
There are a number of ways to support your favorite contestant. Buy pageant or fundraising event tickets or fundraising items, and vote with your dollars in the People’s Choice competition.
People’s Choice is an optional competition within the Scholarship Competition. As a fundraiser, this contest is completely separate from the competition point system and has no bearing on the outcome of the overall competition results. It does, however, provide an opportunity for the public to vote for their favorite contestant. The contestant with the most votes wins People’s Choice, receives a crown and sash/stole, and takes home a college scholarship equivalent to half of all People’s Choice votes.
Contestants are asked to stretch themselves during the competition, with the first assignment being to market themselves by asking for a business sponsor. These sponsorships help involve the community in the program by bringing a variety of businesses into the Whidbey Royalty “family.” They also help pay for competition expenses. Businesses that sponsor contestants are provided with many benefits that make the $300 sponsorship fee a very worthwhile investment. If a contestant needs help finding a sponsor, we are happy to get them connected with a business.

The Pioneer Way Pageant is a one-day, all-natural (no makeup) event for girls and boys ages 0-14. It is sponsored by Whidbey Royalty and Oak Harbor Main Street and is organized and run by the reigning Miss and Mr. Oak Harbor Royalty.
Contestants perform a dance, walk the stage and present to the audience, and introduce themselves. Emcees ask each contestant an impromptu question. They are scored by a panel of judges, then the top two in each division are crowned Queen/King and Princess/Prince and are invited to participate in the Oak Harbor 4th of July parade with Whidbey Royalty.
We ask contestants to wear something in patriotic colors.
Contestants must be age 0-14 on pageant day and must have spent time on Pioneer Way within the last year. Pre-registration and a $35 registration fee are required.
Contestants should arrive no later than the check-in time designated for their age group. There are age-group pageants all day long… come early to watch the pageants before your favorite contestant’s, and stay afterwards to watch the ones following. If parents or guardians can’t stay the whole day, we ask that they remain on the premises while their contestant is in our care.
Beginning promptly at the check-in time for each division, contestants will learn a short dance to You’re a Grand Old Flag and will receive coaching in how to walk and present on stage and how to introduce themselves at the microphone.
